Beschreibung:

In view of current economic, technological and social transformation processes, such as demographic change, the erosion of traditional employment biographies or the increasing complexity and digitalisation of financial products, financial education is becoming particularly important. It creates the basic requirements for competent economic participation and makes an important contribution to economic stability and increasing welfare. Financial education as part of general education requires sound financial knowledge that enables citizens to take responsibility for overcoming challenges and making balanced, long-term financial decisions.

In this context, the ‘MetaFin’ project aims to expand the data and research base on financial education in Germany and to gain new insights for evidence-based financial education. Building on this, practical measures are being developed to promote financial education among citizens at all stages of education and in all age groups, to strengthen educational equity and to develop individual potential. The project focusses on three key areas - networking, accompanying research and knowledge transfer. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Mannheim Institute for Financial Education (MIFE).

Results:

• Establishment of a "Clearing House Financial Education Research (CHF)’" as an independent scientific information portal and coordination centre
• International exchange: strengthening global networking and integration of research findings, creation of an ‘International Handbook of Research in Financial Education’
• Specialist conferences and brown-bag seminar series, an international conference and workshops for upcoming researchers
• Knowledge transfer: foundation of a journal for application-oriented research and production of a podcast series
• Various research studies
