Young people have a wide range of career options. A look at the training market situation after the coronavirus pandemic reveals both positive and worrying developments. While, on the one hand, there has been an increase in the number of applicants for the dual training system overall for the first time since 2012/2013, on the other hand, it is clear that the number of MINT trainees has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. The number of first-year students in MINT subjects is also declining. The negative trend can also be seen at the level of skilled workers. The MINT Autumn Report 2024 shows that there will be a shortage of around 209,000 people in September 2024.
If the negative trend for the MINT sector persists, this will continue to have a negative impact on innovative strength and thus on economic growth in general.
In addition to promoting MINT education and the resulting skills, STEM career guidance (STEM-BO for short) should be practised and promoted in schools. This should systematically combine the promotion of skills and the career choice processes of young people and sensitise them to the diversity and social relevance of MINT professions.
The aim of the project is to work together with committed STEM schools (Bremen and north-west Lower Saxony) to show how STEM careers guidance can succeed.
Ergebnisse:

- • Accompanying scientific evaluation of the project (including needs assessments at the participating project schools, monitoring of STEM career guidance programmes at the schools, expert workshops)
